The Story
A playground on the outside, a confession on the inside - this hand-built paper pulp bowl holds two worlds in quiet tension. From afar, it reads as joy: a generous, sculptural centrepiece alive with the visual language of childhood. Rocko’s Modern Life grins from its edge, Ducky waddles close behind, and the ghost of scratch-and-sniff stickers lingers like a half-remembered smell from a school notebook. These are the cartoons and textures that once taught comfort, humour, and belonging - bright fragments of a 90s childhood rendered with affectionate precision.
But lean in, and the tone shifts. Inside the bowl, innocence gives way to exposure. A baby pink flick knife glints with contradiction - soft colour, sharp intent. A yellow happy face lighter smiles too widely, its cheer masking heat and risk. A rolled stack of hundred-dollar bills hints at desire, power, escape. Tucked among them, an anonymous note reads PS I love you - tender, unsettling, unresolved. Is it devotion, danger, or both?
This bowl is not decorative alone; it is psychological. A vessel for the things we show the world and the things we keep hidden. Made slowly by hand from paper pulp and painted with care, it speaks to the moment when childhood spectacle collides with adult complexity. Placed at the centre of a table, it invites conversation, curiosity, and reflection - a sculptural memoir of growing up, where sweetness and threat coexist, and nostalgia is never just nostalgic.
